When he had been a normal walker, Nikolai thought that he was invisible. He would just do his job and nothing more, never really go out of his way to associate, let his friends come to him. Clearly someone had taken notice, because when Banna needed to fill a vacancy, she had chosen him to be the sentinel, and then Nikolai knew that he was always visible, that everyone knew what he was up to at all times... which was usually patrolling or guiding some dog or otherwise doing his job, taking on the duties of three normal walkers because he thought that's what he was supposed to be doing. Now he had been acting vice for a grand total of three days, and it was almost like he was invisible again.
The other high ranks all knew his whereabouts, of course, because they had to: he spent all of his days advising them, either helping Chase figure out how to act or advising Spider and the others on how best to proceed with some trouble. He was sinking into the position well, he felt, but it still felt awkward and uncomfortable, a title that he knew he needed but didn't want, so he made himself scarce when possible. He knew that a walk would help him focus, make him a bit less stressed and get his head on straight, but he couldn't just up and abandon the labyrinth in case something happened, so instead he was just a ghost, his presence always felt but rarely seen firsthand.
Now, he ventured out to see if there were any scraps of food that the scrapers may have brought back for him. He hadn't eaten all day, only partially by choice. He also just kind of... forgot. It was a thing that happened, one that he wasn't always proud of happening but that occurred nonetheless, and he paid the price for it on days like this, when he and his ratty coat would shuffle out of some hidden place to see if any garbage was appetizing. Nikolai hoped no one saw him like this, no one saw just how poorly the Vice was acclimating to his new position.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
