Adopting A Character
On Infidelis, we have two kinds of adoptables: board-provided ones (Infidelis Adoptables) and member-provided ones (Wanted Ads). New members are allowed to pick up whichever kind they want, though the way in which these adoptables are essentially "picked up" differs a bit.
When adopting an Infidelis-provided adoptable, we don’t require any type of notice before you decide to take the character. All you have to do is copy the application code, tweak it to your liking (if you want), and post it in our Character Creation board. There may be some sections you will need to fill out, such as the OOC Section or the stats section.
When adopting a player-provided Wanted Ad adoptable, it’s courteous to let the listing’s owner know before you actively join the board with that character. They might want to discuss some things with you or make sure you’ve built the character correctly. Once you get the OK from them, you are free to fill out an application template and post it in our Character Creation board.
Diversity Challenge: Faceclaim Suggestions
Many who come to Infidelis may already have a character in mind, but what about how that character will look like? Perhaps you’re just struggling to figure out what your character should look like - and that’s where our Faceclaim Suggestions come in!
Using one of these suggestions will grant you 250 Kibble upon joining, due to your efforts in helping keep the characters on Infidelis diverse! Check out the listed face claims below and see if any of them catch your eye! Please be sure to claim your kibble award in the Maintence Thread! This is a very important step, as it lets us know to remove the Face Claim from the thread!

Please copy the above code and paste it into the BBCode Tab of a New Thread in Character Creation. You will need to be signed into your Player Account to create a new thread in this forum. This is the only place you should be posting your character's application! Please do not post it anywhere else!
Make sure you post the code into the BBCode tab! Posting it in the Preview tab will work, but it will space everything out and you’ll have to fix a ton of spacing issues during your edit. It’s easiest to paste the code into the BBCode tab, input your character’s application picture link, then switch to the Preview tab to work on the rest of the information.
Please do not edit or customize the application in any way. This includes the headers, font, colors, adding more pictures, or adding quotes where they don’t belong.
The title of your thread should be your properly-capitalized character’s name. The subtitle of your thread (the line just below the title field) should be 'Gang | Job Category' (ex: Dodgers | Security).
Please include which special items are being used, such as tokens, contact lenses, Barc Shop items, etc. in capitalized, center letters above (and outside) the application at the top! This is to let us know that you have an item you are using for this character and it needs to be removed from your account.
Your character’s account should only be created once their application receives an acceptance reply.
In this section, you will have to fill in your character’s name and gang again, along with their job rank (ie. Dodgers, Lookout). All characters start at the lowest job rank, Level 1, unless using an Instant Rank Up Token upon joining. Characters, such as dogs not belonging to any gang, cats, or creatures, should list ‘Loner’ in this section.
While your character can have a two-part name, they cannot have a surname or a family name. No two characters may use the same name on Infidelis, so check our Members List to make sure your desired name isn't taken.
As shown in the placeholder, the image in your application is 490px wide and 300px tall; the width is really the only thing we're strict about! The application’s code will automatically resize the image to the proper width, so no image editing is necessary. Please ensure that your chosen image is big enough to scale to 490px without becoming blurry or stretched!
The Face Claim
The Face Claim (or FC) refers to the pictures you’re using for your character’s appearance. No two characters, unless previously agreed upon for twin characters or such, may use the same Face Claim. This avoids confusion and possible conflicts between players. Please be sure to check our Face Claims before settling on an image for your character. If you’re having trouble finding a good Face Claim for your character, please ask in Help or on our Discord! There are plenty of people there who would be delighted to help you!
We allow players to use pictures from anywhere they choose. We also allow the use of Personal Art as long as you created or commissioned for the art. It’s your responsibility to provide credit where it’s due. You’re also allowed to use just one image for your character, if that’s more your thing. Be aware, however, that means you are agreeing that you’ll only be using that one image.
In the application, we prefer you put the album’s name to give the pictures’ owner their proper credit (ex. InstagramUsernameHere or "Willy" from OwnersUsernameHere if the set has multiple dogs) hyperlinked to the album or Instagram. We recommend using Instagram or Flickr as sources for Face Claims, due to them often having multiple pictures of the same dog within a single album or account. It’s much easier to give them credit this way!
Puppy or younger characters must have a face claim that looks their age. You're more than welcome to claim two different sources for them for their adult and puppy appearence. However, if you opt to only go with a single source, it must at least have age appropriate images for them.
If you’d prefer to use multiple images not from the same album source, such as images found on Google, you must create an album that lists these images somewhere in a singular place. We suggest a site that’s easy to use like Imgur or Imgbox, though you’re free to use whichever site you’d like.
While we allow virtually any breed here, some of them require special tokens or special circumstances to be played depending on their rarity. Some breeds are limited, meaning you can only get them once you become a certain Player Rank, while others are discouraged or temporarily banned due to an influx of them on site. We strongly recommend that you take a look at our Breed List before settling on a breed for your character.
The Face Claim you choose for your character must match their claimed breed or if the character is a mix, show some sort of characteristics of both claimed breeds. Claiming a character to be a Siberian Husky x Mastiff mix, for example, despite them looking like a purebred Siberian Husky is not acceptable. We recommend you search for a Face Claim that would have some traits of both breeds, whether it be fur color, texture, length to more physical features like droopy jaws, blocky head, or a larger physique.
We also ask that you use good judgment when inputting the height and weight of your character. If the dog in your character’s pictures looks small, but you’re claiming them to be 100 lbs, there’s a good chance we’re going to ask you to adjust their size. Additionally, mixed breeds' size and weight should be a rough average of their claimed heritage breeds!
If a dog is mixed to a point where you’re unsure what breed it is, please put ‘Mutt’. If you know what breeds your character is and it’s more than 4, please still put ‘Mutt’. Feel free to elaborate which breeds they are in the Appearance or Miscellaneous section.
All dogs born in the gangs are mixes of some type! It's highly unlikely for two purebred strays to find each other and mate.
The age of your character should be in # years old (born in Month) or # months old (born in Month) format. Once your character is past 11 months, please use years to depict their age. If you’re confused about how your character ages up or how to count how many months old they are, please refer to the last section of this guide.
All puppy characters must be a minimum of 2 months old, both gang-born or not gang-born! If you’re adopting a pup from an onsite litter, they cannot be played on board until they are 2 months old.
Additionally, puppy characters under the age of 6 months cannot be Loners wandering the streets alone. The reason for this is while your puppy character may be able to feed themselves, it's highly unlikely that they will understand the dangers of the city (predators, hazards, cars, humans with ill-intentions) and be able to avoid them. While you are allowed to make a Loner puppy character between the ages of 2 - 5 months, they must be accompanied by an NPC caretaker.
Puppies made for gangs with histories of being in the gang for all or most of their life do not require a caretaker as the gang acts as their caretaker.
Please list your character’s biological sex here. There’s no need to state whether they are intact as most characters are assumed to be. If they aren’t though, feel free to state this in their Miscellaneous section!
We allow all sexualities and genders on Infidelis, but ask that players list their character’s biological sex on all major documents, such as their application and mini-profile. Your character’s gender choice can be mentioned in their Personality or Miscellaneous sections in their application. We ask that all transgender characters list their gender status clearly in their signature for easy reference during roleplay. Please see our Realism page for more on this topic!
We do not allow sex-changes for any animal played on Infidelis to be canon, as it stretches realism a bit too much.
Height & Weight
Please use lbs (pounds) and in (inches) when stating your character’s height and weight. If you need a converter, just search "cm to inches" or "kg to lb" on Google!
If your character is purebred, a quick Google search will produce the standard size of the dog; though of course, some characters are bound to be bigger or smaller than standard. Sometimes, you might have to check a few sources because the numbers might fluctuate a bit, especially with rarer breeds. It’s always best to go with the average when given multiple results. If your character is a purebred, dont go too far above the standard height or weight, especially if you're claiming them to be a showdog.
A good site for checking most measurements is Dogs In Depth. Please note that some breeds’ measurements here are not split by sex, and so additional searching may be required.
For characters that are mixed breeds, we have a simple solution for figuring out their realistic weight & height range:
- Choose their breeds’ maximum heights. Make sure it corresponds with their gender. Let’s say your character has two breeds. Add them together, and then divide by two. You now have your mixed breed character’s maximum height.
- Choose their breeds’ minimum heights next. Add them together, divide by two. You now have your mixed breed character’s minimum height.
- Do the same for both the maximum and minimum ranges of their breeds’ weight. Divide by two because there’s only two breeds you need the ranges for.
- Once you’ve got the ranges, choose their height and weight based on the numbers between those ranges.
A COMPREHENSIVE EXAMPLE:
Say our character is a female Siberian Husky x German Shepherd mix.
A Siberian Husky’s measurement ranges, according to Dogs in Depth, are 20 - 22 in & 35 - 50 lbs
A German Shepherd’s measurement ranges are 22 - 24 in & 49 - 71 lbs.
To figure out the minimum range of our mix, we add the minimum heights of both dogs: 20 + 22 = 42
And then divide 42 / 2 (because we have two breeds) = 21 (this is our minimum height range)
To figure out the maximum range of our mix, we add the maximum heights of both dogs: 22 + 24 = 46
Then divide 46 / 2 = 23 (this is our maximum height range)
To figure out the weight range of our mix, it’s a very similar process:
35 + 49 = 120 / 2 = 42 (min weight)
50 + 71 = 145 / 2 = 60.5 (max weight, can round up to 61 lbs)
So, our ranges are:
Height: 21 - 23 in
Weight: 42 - 61 lbs
If your mixed character was a Siberian Husky x German Shepherd mix, their height and weight should be somewhere within those ranges. Similar to purebreds, some dogs are larger/smaller than others, and so, fluctuating this average to go 1 - 2 inches or around 10 lbs under or over the calculated range is fine. Please keep in mind that all our strays are malnourished and these are ranges based off a dog’s healthy weight, so please keep this in mind when deciding your dog’s size.
Here you will describe how your character looks. While your description should match your Face Claim, you can include small changes that the Face Claim might not show, such as scars or injuries.
While your description in this section doesn’t need to be incredibly detailed or complex, we’d still like to see some effort put forth rather than "Spot is a white dog with black spots." There’s plenty you can write about in this section! How are their eyes shaped? What color are they? Do they have any long term injuries or scars? Perhaps they affect the way they function? Do they have an overbite? Are they finicky about hygiene or do they always stink? What’s their build like? How do they carry themselves? Are they an intimidating bull or a timid mouse?
If you’re stumped, we recommend looking at a few accepted applications to gain some inspiration on how to beef up your description a bit more! You should strive to meet around 150 words for this section.
This is the section where you’ll tell us about your character’s personality. Here, we should be able to get a good grasp of your character. We expect at least 250 words to be written for this section; anything shorter than that would be severely lacking! We’re expecting you to put the most effort into this section!
The five traits at the top are a general overview of how your character acts. They should give a preview of what’s to come in the paragraphs below, and should be a good mix of positive and negative traits. There are plenty of other resources available on Google, but here’s a huge list of personality traits for your convenience!
In this section, we want you to paint your character’s picture. There shouldn’t be any contradictions (ex. Spot is calm, but can also be hot-headed) or unreasonable claims (ex. Listing Spot as ‘antisocial’ just because he’s friendly around friends and quiet around strangers). Another thing to remember is that just because a gang conforms to one general personality doesn’t mean your character has to fit that norm. We welcome characters that go against the grain! That’s how yours will stand out. The Saints and Yardies may be aggressive, but that doesn’t mean your character has to be. While your character should still have some traits or skills that secures their place and makes them ‘wanted’ in their chosen gang, mixing it up with unique personalities is acceptable!
In this section, you will tell us all about your character’s background. We should be able to follow your character’s ‘timeline’ as you take us through each point in their life right up until now.
This section is mostly freeform and you’re allowed to write it all in paragraph form or break it up into sections. The only thing we ask is that you use common sense and try to be realistic with how the characters in your character’s history act (ex. a human would not let their prized, champion-born show dog just walk out the door, disappear, and forget about them) to how they interact with others (ex. your character somehow managing to kill three dogs in a fight). Try to keep in mind how old your character is and what their life has consisted of up until this point. If they’re a year old, they likely wouldn’t have made too much history yet. If your character isn’t gang-born, you must include how they joined their current gang if they’re in one now.
Unless you specify that your character just recently joined their gang or will join a gang through in-character roleplay, they’d know most of the dogs in their gang. All gangs on Infidelis function as sort of a dysfunctional family. You wouldn’t live in the same house with someone for several months and never learn their name, right? While your character might not know each and every dog personally, they’d at least know their name and perhaps their rank.
If you want to include a different player’s character in your history, please ask the character’s player before doing so. They’d be the best people to ensure you’re using their character correctly. Plus, it’s always polite to ask before using something that isn’t yours!
You should strive to make this section at least 250 words. The only exceptions to this requirement would be pups and adolescents that might not have a lot of history to tell just yet. Understandably, some characters won’t have too many things happen to them in their life, but you don’t need to have a tragic life to have an interesting one. Try your best to make the word requirement and we won’t nag you about it!
Family & Relationships
In this section, you will list your character’s family and important relationships. Even if your character doesn’t know their parents very well, it’s very unlikely that a pup would be whisked away from their mother before getting to know her even just a little, so their mother’s name should always be listed. A father’s name is not required if your character does not know them. You are free to include a very brief description beside each listing family member's name:
Example 1: Mother: Dot (deceased)
Example 2: Mother: Dot, Dalmatian, currently living as a housepet
For your character’s siblings, if they can’t remember them or somehow never met them, you can put ‘several unnamed siblings’ or just ‘#x unknown’. Otherwise, you must list their siblings here in the below format:
Example: Siblings: Flower (F), Twig (M), Oak (M)
If you want to add anything extra about your character’s siblings, you can do so at the bottom of this section or in the "Miscellaneous" section.
If your character’s family is alive and living in their gang, but you don’t plan on making them adoptables, please do not list that they’re NPCs. It’d already be assumed. If you do plan on making them adoptables, we recommend you put up a Wanted Ad for them if you’re looking for other players to adopt and play them!
Planned adoptables or not, you may include your character’s family NPCs in your threads.
The ‘Other Family’ section is a place to include extended family or perhaps unrelated family. This is a good area to list anyone important to your character, period. Be it mentors, best friends, human owners, or characters they consider family. Just be sure to list who they are to your character (ex. Dash, Spot’s mentor)
Strengths & Weaknesses
In this section, you will list your character’s skills, strengths, weaknesses, and flaws in this format: STRENGTH: Description of skill.
- Strengths can be anything from positive traits that help your character feel a certain way or perform a certain task. A valuable strength might be patience or logic. Because these are very similar to personality traits, we ask that you ensure your personality traits and strengths do not overlap! Pick different ones that define your character.
- Skills are usually taught or learned abilities that assist your character in performing better in their environment. A valuable skill may be fishing or swimming.
- Weaknesses are often fears, negative traits, physical abilities, or strong dislikes that affect your character in a profound, and typically negative, way. They are often disadvantages to your character or faults.
We encourage you to be a little more creative than just listing ‘good tracker’ or ‘fast’ as strengths. There are plenty of resources on the internet that can help you pick out good strengths, skills, flaws, and weaknesses for your character. We’ve listed some for you to look at:
Your strengths and weaknesses should balance out each other; if your character’s weaknesses are lacking in comparison to their strengths, we will ask you to adjust their weaknesses to where they are a little bit more concrete (ex. by adding a major flaw or a huge fear).
Numerically, you should have an even amount of strengths and weaknesses or have more weaknesses than strengths.
Example 1: Spot has 2 strengths and 2 weaknesses ✔
Example 2: Spot has 2 strengths and 3 weaknesses ✔
Example 3: Spot has 4 strengths and 2 weaknesses X
You may not list ‘fighting well’ as a strength. We simply do not accept this because most street dogs know how to fight due to the harsh environment they live in. If you want to give your character a combat-related strength, you have to be more creative and think outside of the box. You can list some kind of strength, agility, or their fighting style as a strength - just be sure to include how it gives them an upperhand in a conflict!
Please avoid words and phrases like "the best," "the fastest," "stronger than other dogs," etc. as these ebb on the border of ‘perfect’ characters and godmoding. There will always be a character stronger than yours, but that doesn’t necessarily put your character at a disadvantage either.
Similarly, weaknesses need to be weaknesses. Anything can be a weakness, but you need to explain why. Why does this negatively affect your character? Why is it a disadvantage for them?
Avoid qualifying your weaknesses! You’re listing it as a weakness, so let it be a weakness! It’s supposed to be a negative trait or a flaw, let it be one.
SLOW: Spot can’t run very fast. He can still keep up with other dogs, but he can’t beat them in a race.
Having unique strengths or weaknesses are welcomed! Perhaps your character is considered cute by humans and they use it in their favor? Or maybe they’re good at using door handles to open them!
Lastly, we ask you to be realistic. Very few breeds, for example, are both huge and agile. Your character shouldn’t be the Jack-of-all-trades and just great all around. Both strengths and weaknesses, the good and the bad, gives your character dynamic and makes them a unique character that’s fun to play!
This section is here for you to add anything else about your character that you couldn’t fit into the other sections. Any future job ambitions (such as becoming a Special or High Rank), quirks, likes/dislikes, voice claims, and fun facts can go here, among many other possibilities!
Tailers, Pups, and Recruits should also list what Job they’d like to be placed in upon their graduation.
This section is not mandatory and simply putting ‘None’ or ‘N/A’ would suffice if you have nothing to say here.
This section is pretty self-explanatory. We want to know about you here, not your characters. List your ooc name, your pronouns, where you found us / who referred you, and your other characters on board. Once you’ve filled out the ‘where you found us’ sections once, you don’t have to fill them out for subsequent character applications. You can just leave them blank. This section is, however, mandatory to fill out!
Once You're Done...
All that’s left to do now is create your thread! Once you’ve posted your character’s application, you might want to check over some things to ensure got everything:
- Post your application using your Player Account
- Make sure your thread title and subtitle are correct
- Proofread your application to ensure there are no typos
- Make sure your image is correct
- Make sure your Face Claim is linked correctly
- Remove any weird spaces or breaks in the template
- Ensure that you’re eligible to make a new character by ensuring you have the post requirements and an available Character Slot. (Please see Activity & Posting for a detailed rundown of the requirements!)
Please Note: Auxiliary Requirements do not apply to your very first two characters!
Once you’ve ensured everything is correct and that you are eligible for a character, go ahead and post in the App Notification Thread!
You must wait for your application to be approved before you can start roleplaying! You do not, however, have to wait for your character’s account to be grouped before posting.
Updating Your Application
We don’t lock accepted applications, so you have access to your character’s application at all times to make updates as needed! This can include:
- Changing your character’s weight due to them gaining more weight due to better seasons or growing older, losing weight due to sickness, etc.
- Updating their appearance with gained scars, greying snouts, etc.
- Updating their personality due to character development
- Adding more to their history based on things that happened in character
- Adding new crushes, mates, or pups
- Adding more skills or weaknesses
- Adding anything else you feel is necessary
If you’ve made any major changes to your character’s application, please post a message in the App Notification thread mentioning you’ve made a big update and would like someone to check it over! Every couple of months, we run a sitewide event that allows you to update your application in exchange for kibble. However, we encourage players to update their applications, if needed, regularly.
