It was madness, pure and unadulterated chaos. Yelps, squeals of terror, snarls of rage broke the normal leisurely quiet of the junkyard. Gun shots plumed the air, the heavy stench of their gun powder odor desecrated the normal aroma of their home. Sabine ran, letting her lithe legs carry her away blindly from the massacre that was happening at her heels. The humans had returned and this time they seemed more keen than ever to settle their vendetta against the inhabitants of the scrapyard. She felt bodies jostle hers, desperately trying to escape, right now it was survival of the fittest. They'd find eachother later...right? Right now, they just needed to make sure they all got the hell out of there .
She winced as she ran, the smell of some of her gangmates leaking crimson reached her nose. Sabine knew she would not be returning to a wholesome gang, something that made her heart ache. It was her job to tend to their wounds, fix their injuries, and here she was running away from the scene she had been sworn to mend. She heard her gang mates calling frantically, some trying to rally against the humans, others letting their intended destination be known. Unfortunately the wind snapped at her ears and swallowed their words. Sabine ran blindly into the adjacent forest crashing through the river that separated it from the junkyard. The humans had a healthy respect for her (the forest) and she deduced they most lost likely would not swarm into the foliage to find stragglesome dogs.
She slowed when she felt she had run a clean mile into the barren darkness. She slowed to a trot, her breaths came in heavy pants with tears touching her honey eyes. "What the hell.." She gently sobbed to herself, she felt a constantly flickering array of emotions; anger, fear, guilt, sadness. Sabine would have been a festering buffet of melancholy for any who delighted in the pain of others. Her worry drove her to ignorance as she attempted to sort herself, not much watching for any lurking boogeyman or predators. Although, a curious feeling had begun to perch itself on her shoulders.
Suddenly her stomach was in her throat, air snatching itself from her maw. She heard cracking, the tell tale sound of snapping twigs and crunching leaves as the winter floor gave way beneath her. She managed a confused yelp before her yellow crown dissapeared beneath the floor line. Sabine fell in a mess of discarded flora and her own twisted form. She heaved for breath as she slender form crashed into the bottom of the trap, a singular howl left her maw. It was a chilling sound, desperate and pain ridden and of course, a delectable choir to any predators ears. She searched for the cause of her pain and found it in the form of a slightly mangled fore leg. It was bent at odd angles, not distinctly broken but to her trained eyes it was fractured beneath the skin. Luckily, her bone hadn't protruded past her dermis and fur.
She whimpered with pathetic sobs, what else could go wrong? She hadn't exactly run in the same direction of her gang. And calling out would alert the humans, not to mention whatever else the forsaken woods were hiding. She was overwhelmingly alone and....well, fucked. She heard rustling above her and her paranoia ran rampant. Silent prayers to the stars parted her maw as she begun to accept her fate. Images of monsters, the kind her cult had taught her of, flashed through her mind. What kind of creature dug holes in the forest for their prey? A deranged one.., it had to be. Sabine rolled to her side and stifled yelps of pain as best she could, whimpering softly with each movement. At least, on this blasphemous day, she had the stars with her, they never abandoned her.
