Black paws rapidly hit the grass, long nails ripping up turf as they moved. Pants came hot and heavy as their owner continued to run after his quarry, a particularly juicy-looking squirrel. The rodent was still fast enough to keep ahead of him, however, much to the black dog’s annoyance. The agile canine dodged and weaved as the small animal did, jumping when he had to in order to get on top of a tree stump, boulder, or other such platform. Thankfully, it hadn’t decided to climb a tree yet. And just when he was closing in on it... there was a flash of orange, and it was gone.
Stunned, Archelaos stared as he saw the retreating form of a cat that had taken his meal. A growl ripped from his throat, and he gave chase. The cat either heard or smelled him, then, and picked up the pace. The Belgian was grateful for his stamina as he continued to run after the feline, though... flashes of imagery from his first days in the ring came to him, when he and a cat had been tied to a strange contraption. He’d been made to chase the animal until he’d caught it. The black dog shook his head and whined, trying to shake the thoughts from his mind. When it seemed he was closing in on the cat, which had miraculously also not chosen to climb a tree yet, the smaller animal bolted away from the playground entirely in a completely different direction.
Damn it! Archelaos stopped, panting more heavily than before, looking for the source of what had caused the cat to alter its course. Sure enough, he spotted another canine. This one smelled of Dodger. Not an enemy by gang, but he had cost him his meal. Briefly growling his annoyance, the Belgian moved towards the unknown dog. “Do you have a name, stranger?” he rumbled.
notes It's 6 PM and you're chasing a cat.
